In what looks like a hollowed out airplane silo, Ryan and Jessica Carr have created an atmosphere at their eponymous winery that rivals the best party in town. Carr has created a very cool growler-type program, where you can get your own refillable bottle and fill it with several of their delicious offerings, which are always in small production. Still one of the top vineyard managers in Santa Barbara, Ryan is able to capture some of the best fruit sources for his eclectic mixture of bottles, including one of the best white wines in the county….”

When I walked into the winery/tasting room, every one of my senses was stimulated. The aroma of the grapes crushed, fermented and turned into wine right there in that vast room lingered in the air and sent sipping thoughts tripping across my brain….
2008 Carr Cabernet Franc, Santa Ynez Valley
Carr Winery is really what a winery should be about. Enjoying the fruit and having a great time with every moment. Ryan and Jessica Carr took their love from the University of Arizona (Go Cats!) to the vines of Santa Barbara and have set up one of the most fun and inviting wineries that I have ever seen. With a tasting room on the Urban Wine Trail in downtown Santa Barbara, the Carr’s have done something in wine that is rare – make it fun. With lots of great events at the tasting room and around town, this duo is putting out great Pinot Noir, Syrah, one of the best Pinot Gris in California and my personal favorite – their 2008 Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc is looked at as the bastard stepchild of Cab Sauvignon, but actually is the genetic parent of the more famous grape. Cab Franc tends to be more herbal, dusty, dank and dark, but what Ryan Carr has managed to put together with this 2008 version, is nothing short of sensational!
2009 Carr Pinot Gris, Turner Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills
Clean, crisp flavors of green apples with tropical fruit and mineral notes. The wine is aged five months in stainless steel and stays light on the finish. A truly great wine by itself or as a pairing to a sharp cheese. It received a 91 point rating and editor’s choice award from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
2007 Carr Syrah, Morehouse Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley
One of the last vineyards in the area to plant the Syrah Durell clone, the wine has a full-bodied taste with hints of raspberry, blueberry, plum, cured meat and spice. The finish features smooth textures with ripe, firm tannins and juicy mid-palate.
